Hospital Programs
EAMC Patient Crisis Fund
The Patient Crisis Fund helps patients who are unable to work due to their illness and need assistance with rent/utilities and home medical equipment. This fund is only used when all other resources have been exhausted and patients are truly in crisis. A maximum of $500 per patient is allowed through this fund.

Community Outreach Programs
EAMC reaches out to the community through the following programs:
EAMC Breast Health for Underserved Women
This program provides screening and diagnostic mammograms, biopsies (if needed), and follow-up care through
EAMC for medically underserved women. Since it was established in 2005, this program has served approximately 500 women in our community.

EAMC Colorectal Cancer Screening
This program, which started in 2008, provides colorectal cancer screening and treatment for people who are uninsured or underinsured. Since it started, the program has served approximately 50 people in our communities.

EAMC Diabetes and Nutrition Center (DANC)
EAMC provides free education and training, meters and testing strips to diabetes patients who do not have insurance or the financial resources to pay for them. In fiscal year 2010, this program served more than 1,100 patients.

EAMC Fitness Scholarships
In many cases, exercise is a more effective treatment for a medical condition than medication alone. For indigent patients whose physicians have recommended a medically directed exercise regimen to treat their condition,
EAMC provides limited scholarships to
HealthPlus Fitness Center. In fiscal year 2010 we provided 38 scholarships.

EAMC Parish Nurse Program
Since 2001, the
EAMC Parish Nurses have been serving the community though programs in churches as well as other sites, such as community health fairs and the Darden Wellness Center, located in the Opelika’s historic Darden House. The group currently is active in more than 20 congregations in Lee, Macon, and Chambers counties. During the course of a year, the EAMC Parish Nurses make approximately 6,000 contacts with people in the community, providing health education, counseling, health screenings, and referrals to other community resources.

EAMC Prenatal Clinic
Prenatal care is provided by nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and social workers in collaboration with area obstetricians. The clinic was established in September 2005 after maternity services were discontinued at the Lee County Public Health Department. Its mission is to provide quality prenatal care to uninsured or underinsured women in a caring and compassionate manner. The clinic provides approximately 800 to 1000 patient visits per month.

EAMC Prostate Screening for Underserved Men
The prostate screening program provides initial testing for prostate cancer and offsets biopsy and screening costs for men who are uninsured or underinsured.
Urologist Rishi Rajan, M.D., provides consultation to patients at no cost. Since this program was established in 2006, it has served more than 455 men in our communities.

Unity Wellness Center
UWC exists to serve the needs of community members living with HIV in Lee, Macon, Russell, Chambers and Tallapoosa Counties with a few extended services in Coosa, Clay, Talladega, and Randolph Counties. In fact, UWC is the only provider of these services in east Alabama. In fiscal year 2010, this program served 8,431 people, ranging in age from children to the elderly. Both clinical and supportive services are provided, as well as HIV testing and prevention education.
