Mr. Teel believes in educating the public about the Foundation and the programs offered to the community through its grants. He is a former president of the Opelika City Council, which he served as a member from 1996 to 2008. He has a degree in finance and is the owner of a local marketing company.

He and his wife, Jane, an Auburn University faculty advisor, have two children, Jim and Elizabeth.
